Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of selected topics in modal logic to the extent necessary for the development of the theory of nonmonotonic modal logics later in the book. An exhaustive presentation of modal logics can be found in several good monographs on the subject, for example, Chellas[Che80], Fitting [Fit83], and Hughes and Cresswell [HC84]. A detailed study of index logics can be found in the dissertation of Segerberg [Seg71].
