Abstract

Interfaces may be formed between ordered phases of different types or between ordered and disordered phases. Various interesting interfacial structures may emerge: for example, the interface can be smooth or rough; its thickness may grow continuously or in discrete steps, as one varies external parameters such as the temperature; the interface between two phases may decompose in the presence of a third phase (wetting). Correspondingly, various related critical effects may be encountered at interfaces.
