Quantum Chemical Interpretation of Absorption Spectra of Small Alkali Metal Clusters

  • Conference paper
Clustering Phenomena in Atoms and Nuclei

Abstract

Comparison of the depletion spectra of small alkali metal clusters with the results obtained from the quantum chemical investigation of excited states determined for the equilibrium geometries makes possible the structural assignments. The knowledge gained about specific geometrical and electronic properties responsible for excitations in small clusters is used for explanation of the predicted and measured spectroscopic patterns. Similarities and differences between the optical response properties of Nan and Lin clusters have been found and discussed.
