Abstract

In comparison to binary metal-hydrogen systems treated in the foregoing chapter, alloy-hydrogen systems to be described here are naturally more complex and need special consideration. Being composed of more than two kinds of atoms, the crystal lattice has, in general, a more complex structure, containing many kinds of interstitial sites with different chemical as well as geometrical configurations of the surrounding atoms. In disordered or amorphous alloys, there may well be continuously varying local configurations. Thus, it may be expected that H atoms are distributed over different energy states.
