Abstract

We begin this chapter by using simple arguments to describe holography and to treat such important aspects of holography as image position, resolution and change of wavelength. Under the general heading of Optical Processing, we include the Abbe theory of the microscope, spatial filtering, phase-contrast microscopy, and matched filtering; in short, what is often called Fourier-transform optics.
