Stewartson Memorial Lecture: Experiments are Telling You Something
The emphasis of the three previous Symposia on Numerical and Physical Aspects of Aerodynamic Flows has been on calculation methods, with only a few papers dealing with experimental work. This is reflected in the programme for the Fourth Symposium of which this paper is a part. It is also apparent that considerably more attention is paid to calculations in the references cited, and this is understandable in view of national and international emphasis on less expensive research; but it does not mean that the physical aspects of laminar, transitional and turbulent flows are adequately understood. Nor does it mean that the lessons of experiments already performed should be neglected or ignored.
