Redistribution of Growth Stress States Due to Cutting
The focus in the previous chapter was on the verification of the internal residual stress states in trees as predicted by the theoretical models which were discussed in Chapter 4. Of course, in order to verify the existence of the various internal residual stress states, it was necessary to carry out special cutting procedures. However, it is of great practical value to study the redistribution of residual growth stresses which occurs because of routine cutting procedures which are associated with the harvesting and conversion of trees to dimensional lumber.
