Abstract
Comparison of the clinically recommended technique of dry cooling at 4° C vs. perfusion with an oxygenated HbPP solution was initially performed by determining the intracellular levels of the energy-rich phosphagens ATP and CP as well as the intracellular lactate concentrations within isolated rat hind limbs. Tissue samples were harvested using a stop-freeze technique at 0, 1, and 2 h at a room temperature of 22° C and at 3, 5, and 6 h of treatment. Twenty-four amputated limbs were randomized and each probed three times for evaluation. The results are presented in Figs. 3–5.
