Abstract
Lateral structures of submicron periodicity have been fab¬ricated on two-dimensional (2D) electronic systems. In particular, systems have been realized where the originally homogeneous 2D charge density is spatially modulated on a submicron scale. We will discuss the excitation of plasmons and intersubband resonances in these systems. Novel electronic properties are observed, e.g. mini-gaps in the plasmon dispersion due to the superlattice effect of the periodical charge density modulation on the plasmon dispersion.
