Breathers in the PPP Model of Polyacetylene

Abstract

In the Pariser-Parr-Pople(PPP) model of polyacetylene with the Coulomb interaction, charged solitons with opposite charges and neutral solitons with opposite spins, respectively, have attractive interactions and may make breathers of two kinds, the zwitterionic and diradical ones. We numerically simulate those breathers in the adiabatic approximation. They have different spreadings, energies and oscillation periods but have similar oscillation patterns.
