Abstract

In the study of so-called integrable nonlinear systems, the importance of the role played by solitons has been widely recognized. Solitons are the localized nonlinear waves which (i) represent the elementary mode of excitations of the system under consideration and (ii) have beautiful superposition properties in spite of the nonlinearity of the system.
