Abstract

Ecology is, in broad terms, a field of study concerned with the relationship of living organisms to one another and to their non-living environment. It is thus a biological science which, however, encroaches on other, related fields. Where no living organisms exist, as on the moon, no ecological research can be undertaken. It is necessary, however, to differentiate more clearly between ecology and other branches of biology.
