Abstract

This chapter gives a survey of distribution patterns. Types of comparable nature have been grouped together, in an effort to achieve a natural structure. A subdivision into epi-, meso- and bathypelagic types is not made, as vertical processes will get attention in Chapter 4, only the patterns occupied exclusively by deep-living organisms are given in the last paragraph.
