Abstract
The following types of manufacturing defects can be detected in welded butt joints by ultrasonics: slag inclusions, pores, lack of fusion (cold shuts), lack of penetration (root defects, undercutting), cracks (longitudinal or transverse cracks, depending on their orientation relative to the seam).
