Plating of the Vertebral Column
Primary, secondary, temporary, or permanent spinal fusions may be employed for the stabilization of unstable vertebral fractures. Plating is indicated if it offers the most straightforward means of achieving the therapeutic goal. Sometimes the goal can be reached only by the simultaneous application of anterior and posterior measures or by successive interbody fusion and fixation/bone grafting from a posterior approach (or vice versa).
