In this chapter a short introduction to the mathematical treatment of linear discrete-time systems (sampled-data systems) is given. Only those basic relationships which are fundamental for the design of digital control systems are given. For an in-depth study of the theory of discrete-time systems the reader is referred to the wellknown text books, e.g.[2.3], [2.4], [2.10]-[2.14], [2.17], [2.18].
