Nurse’s Preparations for Arthroscopy

  • Chapter
Arthroscopy of the Knee Joint

Abstract

The care of the arthroscope does not differ significantly from one type to another. All the components, with the exception of the optical system, can be sterilized in the autoclave. The optical system can be sterilized in various ways. The method which we have found satisfactory is to place the optical component in a closed vessel containing formalin tablets. Complete sterility is ensured after 24 h in formalin gas. The optical system can be used immediately. Another possibility is gas sterilization. The disadvantage of gas sterilization is that the instrument has to be aired for 24 h afterwards.
