Abstract

In previous sections we have referred frequently to experimental observations of magnetic flux structures without describing the details of the various methods. In the following we deal with the most important experimental techniques utilized for investigating flux structures in superconductors.In this section we are restricting ourselves to those methods which concentrate primarily on the static behavior. Experiments particularly designed for studying the dynamic behavior of magnetic flux structures will be described in Sect.8. The major portion of these techniques relies on the strong inhomogeneity of the magnetic field protruding from the sample surface, as shown in Fig.2.3. A summary of the developments in the methods for the direct observation of magnetic flux structures in superconductors has been given some time ago by KIRCHNER [6.1].
