Abstract
Common usage of the term basal ganglia usually makes reference to the cellular masses of the telencephalon ; however, anatomists frequently accept all the cellular masses of the base of the forebrain as a part of the basal ganglia of the brain. This latter connotation will be applied in this discourse on the vascular supply of the basal ganglia.
