Zusammenfassung

Die weite Verbreitung der Syphilis im 15. Jahrhundert lenkte verständlicherweise die Aufmerksamkeit auf diese Krankheit. Nach Frerichs herrschte vielfach die Annahme, daß die Leber der primäre Sitz der Erkrankung sei, während die Hauterscheinungen sekundärer Natur wären (v. Hütten, Follopia, Muso, Gallus u. a.). Aber schon damals wurden zahlreiche Stimmen laut, die das Gegenteil behaupteten (Cutaneus, Vetja, Ferro, Botalli, Borgarucius, Mercurialis) Paracelsus betonte, daß er häufig andere Organe, selten die Leber syphilitisch erkrankt fand. Noch 1604 behaupteten aber Racnrx, 1614 Keil, 1655 Jonston die primäre Entstehung in der Leber.
