Hydrocarbons Containing Two Five-membered Rings

  • Chapter
Polycyclic Hydrocarbons

Abstract

Condensation of 4-iodofluoranthene (I) with o-bromonitrobenzene and copper powder gives nitrophenyl-fluoranthene (II). Reduction of the nitro group, diazotization of the amino group and decomposition in the presence of copper powder leads to 4.5-o-phenylenefluoranthene (III).
