Zusammenfassung
Die Schrägbeschattung zur Steigerung des Kontrastes und des Auflösungsvermögens wurde von Müller (1942) und Williams und Wykkoff (1944, 1946) in die elektronenmikroskopische Präparationstechnik eingeführt. Auf die Möglichkeit einer Vor- und Nachbeschattung der Abdrücke (Filme oder Matrizen) wurde bereits in § 13 hingewiesen. Es sei noch einmal bemerkt, daß der Vorbeschattung wenn möglich der Vorzug zu geben ist, damit durch eine Nachbeschattung keine Artefakte durch Verzerrungen des Abdruckmaterials verstärkt werden. In diesem Kapitel soll näher auf die geometrischen Bedingungen eingegangen werden, die zur Erreichung eines optimalen Kontrastes und Auflösungsvermögens erforderlich sind, sowie auf die Eignung verschiedener Beschattungsmaterialien. Über die reine Technik der Verdampfung ist bereits im § 12 berichtet.
