Abstract

Extremely monochromatic gamma radiation may be emitted by atomic nuclei which are strongly bound in crystal lattices. These monochromatic rays are well suited to the study of electric and magnetic hyperfine interactions in solids. Such studies may be used to gain information about the nature of chemical bonds and about magnetic properties in crystals.
