Die porösen feinkeramischen Erzeugnisse lassen sich einteilen in solche mit farbigem Scherben : Terrakotta, Fayence, Kochgeschirr, Töpferware und solche mit weißem Scherben : Tonsteingut, Kalksteingut, Feldspatoder Hartsteingut, Sanitätsgeschirr und Feuertonware oder Schamottesteingut.
