Abstract
When dealing with the bending stresses of shells of revolution, we use the same coordinates as in Chapter 2 where the direct stresses in the same kind of shells were treated: The angle θ between the meridian and an arbitrary datum meridian, and the colatitude ø (figs. II-1 and II-2). For the derivatives with respect to these coordinates we shall use the dash-and-dot notation explained on p. 88.
