Abstract
The era of integrated circuits (ICs) began in the late 1950s with the development of the planar silicon transistor technology. The development of ICs has progressed through small scale integration (SSI), medium scale integration (MSI) and large scale integration (LSI). The delineation between these levels of integration is not based on fundamental definitions; however, the generally accepted conventions are given in Table 1.
