Abstract
Cells have function-dependent patterns of hydrolytic enzymes which, in addition to morphological structure, can be particularly useful in differentiating mononuclear phagocytic cells with strong lysosomal enzymatic activity from lymphocytes and in identifying distinct subpopulations of lymphoid cells. Lysozyme and αl-antichymotrypsin are highly characteristic, although not specific, markers of the monohistiocytic cell series and can be demonstrated on paraffin sections [537].
