Man erwartet vom Epidemiologen in vielen Bereich Kausalaussagen über sehr kleine Risiken. Überzeugende Paradigmen für den Nachweis von Kausalbeziehungen fehlen aber. Wir nähern uns in weiten Bereichen der Risikoabschätzung — Arzneimittel, Müllverbrennung, Passivrauchen, Umweltschadstoffe — einer zunehmenden Konfusion.
