Abstract

The demand for well-designed and thoroughly controlled large scale clinical trials and the growing number of international collaborations of research centers have resulted in an increasing number of large multicenter clinical studies. To ensure cost-effectiveness and optimum inter-center compatibility stringent quality assurance (QA) programs have to be implemented. The Osteoporosis Research Group (ORG) at the University of California, San Francisco has been instrumental in developing QA concepts for radiologic studies - in particular for the field of osteoporosis research. Currently, the ORG is monitoring the quality of radiologic examinations of multiple clinical trials in more than 100 centers throughout the US.
