Computer Assisted Arthrography after Hip Joint Replacement

Abstract

The most frequent complication following joint-replacement is the loosening of the prothesis caused by mechanical factors or infection. Beside standard radiographic projections and radionuclide bone scans arthrography is a common technique for demonstrating loosening of a prothesis. To demonstrate the extension of contrast medium into the gap that develops at the interface of the prothesis or the bone and acrylic cement, the manual subtraction technique was proposed. This study presents the results of digital subtraction arthrography (DSAR) in the detection of loosening a prothesis.
