Synopsis
There are many ways of achieving positive improvement in an organisation. These operate at the levels of personal transformation, structure and culture. In large organisations, structural change normally comes first. Most structural change programmes are reducible to a similar set of ideas, and even the processes of inducing change follow a singular logic. Cultural change will only be deep-rooted and sucessful if it is synchronised into structural and personal change initiatives.
Peter Christian Schumacher studied at New College, Oxford, and obtained an M. A. Honours Degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 1963. He worked in a variety of positions, mainly in the Steel Industry until 1979. He was Industrial Fellow at the London School of Economics until 1981. Since then he has directed his own culsultancy firm, restructuring work in large-scale organisations in industry (including I. C. I., Imperial Group, General Electric, Philips Electronics) and in the health and educational sectors. He is author of “To Live and Work”, published by Kingsway-Marc Europe).
