Zusammenfassung
Hauptaufgabe des Gastrointestinaltraktes ist die Überführung der aufgenommenen Nahrung in resorbierbare Bestandteile und deren Aufnahme in das Körperinnere. Diese Vorgänge werden durch mechanische Prozesse (Zerkleinerung, Durchmischung, Transport) und die Sekretion von Verdauungssäften eingeleitet. Durch die Einwirkung zahlreicher in den Verdauungssäften enthaltener und auf den Darmepithelzellen lokalisierter Enzyme werden Eiweiße, Fette und Kohlenhydrate hydrolytisch gespalten und in resorbierbare Bruchstücke zerlegt (Verdauung). Die Endprodukte der Verdauung sowie Wasser, Mineralstoffe und Vitamine werden sodann aus dem Darmlumen durch die Darmschleimhaut hindurch in das Blut und die Lymphe aufgenommen (Resorption).
