Zusammenfassung
Clostridien bilden eine Reihe verschiedener organischer Lösungsmittel, besonders Butanol, Aceton, Isopropanol und Äthanol, daneben auch Buttersäure. Welches oder welche Produkte hiervon in größeren Mengen gebildet werden, richtet sich nach der Art der Clostridien und den jeweiligen Kulturbedingungen. Diese Fähigkeit, die genannten Substanzen zu bilden, hat zur Entwicklung verschiedener Verfahren zur Herstellung einiger dieser Produkte geführt. Die wichtigsten Verfahren sind:
