An Experimental Study of the Three-Dimensional Structure of the Wake of Circular Cylinders in the Laminar and Transitional Reynolds Number Range
Experiments carried out in the laminar range (50 < Re < 170) of a Kârmân vortex street give evidence for the existance of different modes of oblique vortex shedding in the wake of circular cylinders. The occurance of these discrete modes depends on the end conditions. In the irregular Reynolds number range (170 < Re < 230) the Strouhal number data collapse on one single curve which is an extension of one of the modes of the laminar range.
