Vier Methoden für die Zuordnung von Flugbesatzungen zu Einsätzen — ein Leistungsvergleich

Summary

Part of Lufthansa’s Crew Management System is the implementation of automatic crew rostering. An appropriate method is to be found for assigning crew members to monthly crew rotations. With regard to computer time (CPU time) and results (minimizing the given objective function) four methods have been compared:

• 1) Simple heuristic method

• 2) Hungarian Method

• 3) Out-of-kilter algorithm

• 4) An approximation method.

Our objective function was: minimum deviation from the mean of the monthly flight hours and/or off-days of the crew members.The data basis we got by simulation with help of random numbers. The effectiveness matrices (cost matrices) we generated day after day with the deviations from the daily optimum. So the monthly assignment process is a heuristic one. The Hungarian Method solves this process best.
