Sport im Blickpunkt der Wissenschaften

Zusammenfassung

Eine Philosophie des Sports existiert höchstens in Ansätzen. So muß noch heute die Diagnose lauten — wie schon für die antike Philosophie. Und das, obwohl mehrere antike Philosophen selbst Athleten waren und der Gymnastik großen Wert beimaßen : Pythagoras soll (nach freilich nicht sehr verläßlichen Quellen) Olympiasieger im Faustkampf und Trainer gewesen sein. Platon soll als Ringer bei den Spielen am Isthmus aufgetreten sein. Aristoteles überlieferte die olympischen Siegerlisten. Mlon, der erfolgreichste Schwerathlet des Altertums, schrieb ein wahrscheinlich philosophisches Buch über die Natur. Zudem besingen Homers Epen Kampfspiele und den Agon sowie das Ideal, „stets der Beste zu sein und die anderen zu überragen“. Pindars olympische Oden rezitierte man in ganz Hellas. Sokrates lehrte im Gymnasion.
