Zusammenfassung
Die Kybernetik befaßt sich mit den Prozessen der Kommunikation und der Regelung [1, 2, 12]. Ihre theoretischen Säulen sind Informationstheorie [9, 13] und Regelungstheorie [8]. Diese wurden ursprünglich für den Bereich der Technik formuliert, dringen jedoch immer stärker auch in die Biologie ein [1, 5, 10]. Ihre Anwendung auf lebende Systeme (Biokybernetik) führt zu einer besonders übersichtlichen, häufig auch quantitativen Beschreibung biologischer Funktionen, was vielfach ein vertieftes Verständnis von Zusammenhängen zur Folge hat. Bei zahlreichen Vorgängen der Kommunikation und Regelung in Lebewesen ist das Nervensystem beteiligt. Entsprechend wurde die Biokybernetik vorwiegend in der Neuro- und Sinnesphysiologie entwickelt [16, 31]. Die folgenden Abschnitte bringen an Beispielen aus diesen Bereichen eine Einführung in die Elemente der kybernetischen Betrachtungsweise.
