Zusammenfassung

Unter den Psychiatern der Gegenwart gibt es nicht wenige, die Beziehungen psychischer Vorgänge und ihrer Entgleisungen zu Strukturen des Gehirns und ihren pathologischen Veränderungen leugnen möchten. Sie würden die Berechtigung eines neuro-anatomischen und neurobiologischen Kapitels im Rahmen der Psychiatrie der Gegenwart ablehnen. Im folgenden werden überwiegend Einzelbefunde aus der Morphologie des Nervensystems angeführt, die eine solche Beziehung zu psychischen Vorgängen haben. Korrelationen psychischer Vorgänge zu Vorgängen in morphologisch definierbaren Einheiten begegnen aber der grund-sätzlichen Schwierigkeit, daß jeder seelische Vorgang, vor allem der vielschichtige, etwas Ganzheitliches oder Einheitliches ist, während sich der zuzuordnende somatische Vorgang aus zahlreichen Teilprozessen zusammensetzt, welche entscheidend sogar von der Quantität der beteiligten Neurone bestimmt werden. Zudem ist das menschliche Großhirn, welches die am weitesten entwickelten Apparate zur Informationsverarbeitung besitzt, scharf in zwei symmetrische Hemisphären geteilt. Dadurch wird die Diskrepanz zwischen der Struktur der psychischen und derjenigen der somatischen Vorgänge nur unterstrichen.
