Zusammenfassung

Die Darmbakterien sind eine große Gruppe gramnegativer, nicht sporenbildender Stäbchen, deren natürlicher Wirt der Intestinaltrakt des Menschen und der Tiere ist. Einige Keime (z.B. Escherichia coli) bilden einen Teil der normalen Darmflora, andere (z.B. Salmonella, Shigella) sind in der Regel pathogen für den Menschen. Die Darmbakterien sind aerob, vergären eine große Anzahl von Kohlenhydraten und besitzen eine komplexe Antigenstruktur.
