Die Glasfaser kann ebenfalls als synthetische Faser angesprochen werden, da das Glas auf synthetischem Wege aus einfachen Grundstoffen erzeugt wird. Zu ihrer Herstellung wird entweder die Schmelze aus Düsen ausgepreßt, oder es werden Glasstäbe zu feinen Fasern ausgezogen.
