Abstract

In this chapter, we will define the meaning of the term ‘navigation’ in the relevant application area, review existing sensors and methods, and discuss their characteristics as well as advantages and disadvantages. In this context, we will narrow down the area to be further in the focus within this thesis, whereas the requirements will be related to the underwater robotics domain and the idea to make use of a cooperating team of robots.
