Zusammenfassung
Das heutige Gebiet des Nationalstaats Mali war in unterschiedlichen Konstellationen Teil westafrikanischer Reiche, die den Transsahara-Handel mit Gold, Salz und anderen Rohstoffen kontrollierten. Das früheste der Reiche war das Reich Ghana (Bothe, 2013: 369). Ghana wurde zunächst von den Almoraviden und später von den Soso erobert.
