Abstract
To close these theoretical (mHealth) research gaps, a theoretical empowerment approach is suggested in the following chapters because (1) it adds an alternative theoretical approach to mHealth that goes beyond traditional behavior change and technology adoption models, (2) it is suitable to study additional anteceding factors of (diabetes) app use (3) to replenish technology adoption factors from previous models in a self-management context, (4) it combines and distinguishes intrinsic and extrinsic motivational dimensions (psychological and social influence dimensions), (5) it addresses aspects of self-efficacy, (6) it is suitable to directly predict self-management behaviors and thus (7) it is of high relevance for diabetes self-management..
