Abstract

According to the American Diabetes Association, the term “diabetes” comprises a group of metabolic diseases. Their common characteristic is high blood glucose that results from defects in insulin secretion and action (American Diabetes Association, 2010). In this condition, the body shows inability to use blood sugar for energy, resulting in hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) (National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, 2011).
