Abstract
The research interest focused on examining empowerment as an antecedent of diabetes app use in addition to other influencing factors. Empowerment was defined as including both a psychological and a behavioral component, and as a unique motivational approach it was especially relevant in a diabetes self-management context. Psychological empowerment included the indicators perceived relevance, perceived competence, self-determination, and perceived impact, while behavioral empowerment comprised the indicators HCP-decision-making, HCP-patient communication, and support by private social networks.
