Abstract
Previous results from available diabetes app reviews were introduced in Chapter 3, showing that most diabetes apps included few features (Arnhold et al., 2014; Brzan et al., 2016), and offered limited potential especially for specific target groups (J. A. Rodriguez & Singh, 2018), had usability problems (Fu et al., 2017), and sometimes showed insufficient app quality (Basilico et al., 2016; Brzan et al., 2016; Chavez et al., 2017). Despite a large number of studies on diabetes apps, empowerment was found to be still underinvestigated in mHealth research in relation to diabetes apps (Chapter 7.3), despite their relevance for diabetes self-management (Chapter 7.2).
