Abstract

The previous chapters were dedicated to theoretical implications and previous research. This research aims to complement previous mHealth research by addressing research gaps as outlined in Chapters 6 and 8 (e.g., shortcomings of previous technology adoption theories regarding an inclusion of motivational antecedents of technology use, main focus of mHealth research on empowerment as an outcome of mHealth use and lacking inclusion of psychological and behavioral dimensions). The main research gap that is addressed and that derives from the theoretical suggestions relates to the general lack of understanding of diabetes app use processes.
