Abstract

The World Health Organization published statistics in 2014 showing that 347 million individuals suffer from diabetes worldwide, with rising tendencies (World Health Organization, 2015). Even though diabetes is usually referred to as a “rich-men’s-disease” or a “disease of affluence” (F. B. Hu, 2011), the WHO states that more than 80% of people with diabetes live in low- and middle-income countries (World Health Organization, 2015). Thus, diabetes has become a global problem.
