Zusammenfassung

Das vorliegende Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit „free network communities“ in Deutschland, die sich seit dem Sommer 2015 vermehrt für die Kommunikationsrechte und technische Unterstützung von geflüchteten Menschen einsetzen. Mein Beitrag basiert auf einer ethnographischen Analyse von Freifunk, jener Initiative, die bereits seit dem Jahr 2000 die Gestaltung offener Bürgernetze in deutschen Städten vorantreibt. Im Zentrum stehen die konflikthaften Praktiken der Verhandlung, Planung und Installation von freier Internet-Infrastruktur in Bremer Unterkünften für Geflüchtete. Vor dem Hintergrund interdisziplinärer Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung (STS) und kritischer Migrationsforschung mache ich die politischen Implikationen sowie kollaborative Potenziale von humanitären Medieninterventionen deutlich.
