When I left home for university my mother admonished me, ‘Keep in touch’, she said, ‘Send me letters’. I had no idea that many years later the meaning of that phrase keep in touch would be resonating still. As I ambled up the garden path, I imagined that communicating with her was only a matter between us and so not a big matter, not something to make a career out of.
